Katie Melgaard is currently a Graduate Student at Minnesota State University-Moorhead working towards completing her Master of Social Work degree to become a Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW). My interest in social work was fueled by personal experiences and a passion for advocacy. As a dedicated and passionate individual pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree where she is continuing to gain comprehensive knowledge about social work theories, ethics, and values. Katie has cultivated a strong foundation in mental health services. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, reading, running and spending time at the lake.
Biography
Counseling Approach and Clinical Focus:
While completing her bachelor’s degree, Katie worked at Sanford Behavioral Health inpatient unit with both adolescents and adults with mental illness, suicidal ideation, and homelessness for over five years. Katie also has four years of experience working as a county mental health case manager with children who have a severe emotional disturbance (SED) and filling the gap for those who need additional supports. Katie has experience in working and supporting children and adolescents in areas of depression, anxiety, autism, attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) and oppositional defiant disorder. (ODD).
